don't nub out on me andy.
-
Bah, you beat me to it, hans.
-
It's ok, I beat him to it.
I'm excited about SC2; you still should check out the original Andy. It's an awesome RTS.
-
yea.... I should but it's never peaked my curiosity. You guys should really wake me when Diablo3 comes out.... or if, say Blizzard buys the rights to X-COM and makes their own version... or if Bethesda doesn't fuck up Fallout3....
So, any of you going to upgrade your systems so you can see the fancy DirectX10 graphics?
-
By Diablo3 do you mean...Hellgate: London? It's by most of the D2 design team and basically looks like a futuristic, badass, next-gen Diablo. I've been waiting for this game for over a year now...so yeah. I'll let you know when that comes out :)
As for DX10 - meh, between my PS2 and the fact that I'd have to upgrade pretty much my whole system to effectively use DX10, I'll be waiting a couple years for that, at least until they've ironed out the kinks in Vista.

Mmh Right, Hellgate:London.
I have a hard time looking at that game without thinking that it's going to blow goat testicals. I hope it's as good as the hype.
Now if Blizzard made a Diablo-esque Starcraft game, count me the fuck in! (I'd rather cut down Zerg over Demon spawn) OR. could you imagine Blizzard doing an X-COM-like game? I think their art direction would be perfectly interesting.
My other beef: Come on Blizzard, expand your intellectual property past the three smash-hit universes you've already made -- the cash is flowing, now's the time to do a little experimenting.
How's that for a couple of Andy Nickles, let's get this discussion moving!

Ok, so I was listening to the PCgamer podcast today and they were discussing StarCraft2. They said that it's going to be a game that is geared more towards Base building/economy and Unit Rushing as opposed to the RPG-like Hero character building(*crap*, imo) found in Warcraft3. I-think-this-is-cool. A straight up old-school feeling RTS w/ delicious graphics.
-
never played WC3. Probably should. I'd like both, more than likely. Anyways, it's SC2. It's the sequel to what I (and many others) consider the single best RTS game that ever existed.
-
You and most of South Korea.
Maybe I'll actually buy a copy of Starcraft. Does it have an interesting story line I might care about? Game balance is one thing, but I want some meat. Also, how do the graphics hold up?
-
The storyline was fucking amazing. Seriously, the game was flawless. The graphics aren't anything special anymore, of course.
-
I was watching a SC2 gameplay clip today and the sound effects for the Zerg impressed the shit right out of my body.
Very good sound effects.
-
I HATE Warcraft 3, such an empty game. Like an anorexic belly-dancer.
Andy, I very much agree about Blizzard expanding their repertoire, I guess they just go with what they know.
You know how picky I am about games, and I always consider them a waste of time if the story doesn't keep me interested. Starcraft is a genuinely awesome game, just like Heroes 3, with little letdowns or things not to like. Don't look at the screenshots or graphics (imagine looking at Red Alert 1's graphics now; still an awesome game).
I'll say Starcraft is a game every RTS lover and/or gamer has to pick up. I started playing it long after its heyday, and I love it to death.
Oh and, you will love the Zerg.
-
Starcraft is and always will be amazing. I'd have been pissed if they went the WC3 route for it - it was a pretty good game, I thought, but the hybrid RTS/RPG hero thing did get kind of old. Starcraft just needs to be straight-up EPIC, with giant fights and crazy Protoss mothership technology. Holy balls, that thing is neat.
Anyway yes, Andy, you should be able to find the original for cheaps, and it's still a great game. The graphics aren't super-bad, and the gameplay is still wonderful. Plus the story. It's pretty much perfect.
-
So I guess this means we all have to try and play a SC game together someday, despite our different OSs. Stranger things have been done.
I call zerg.

My experience with the Warcraft series was rather limited. I remember playing some Warcraft 2 way back in the day. I only bought Warcraft 3 because I loved Starcraft. I thought "Hey, fantasy starcraft, right? Can't be wrong, right?" The protoss unit that says "This is not warcraft in space." was totally right, warcraft != starcraft.
The only thing that Warcraft 3 and Starcraft had in common was that I loved the stories of each race you played.
What I find odd is that I was able to beat the game on hard difficulty with out any major trouble. However, when I get into Battlenet, I suck. I cannot beat another player for the life of me and I just get my ass handed to me each time. I don't build fast enough, or I build fast enough and don't have the right combo of units. I don't level my hero fast enough. ARGH.
Anyway Andy if you haven't done so already, you should give Starcraft a try. It is a great game.
